25 THINGS I LEARNED IN MY 25 YEARS

With my 25th birthday around the corner, I thought this would be the perfect time for this blog post !

  1. Create relationships with people. There is a purpose and reasoning behind every person we meet.
  2. Never lose faith. Have faith that God will guide you to your life purpose, but most importantly, never lose faith in YOURSELF.
  3. If you have been close friends with someone for over 7 years, expect this person to stay in your life for good. Psychologists know what they’re saying!
  4. Doing a sport or having a consistent hobby during your teenage years is one of the best ways to shape your personality and character.
  5. Everything happens for a reason! As cliche as it sounds, I will never argue this one.
  6. Dream BIG and never give up! Even if your goals seem unrealistic in the eyes of others, YOU have the best viewpoints on who you can become and what you want to do.
  7. Don’t overthink on things that won’t matter 10 years from now. I struggle with overthinking, but recently, I have tried asking myself: “Will this matter in “x” years from now?” If it won’t, move on from it.
  8. Step out of your comfort zone once in a while. Life should be full of spontaneous adventures!
  9. The best things in life happen when you least expect them to.
  10. Learn from your mistakes. Even though this is something everyone hears countless times, it is such a simple, yet complex task. Make mistakes, but try to avoid making the same ones more than once.
  11. It is not about where we come from, but rather, the path we choose to follow. No family is perfect, but with the right people by your side, you can pave your pathway to happiness and success.
  12. People come and go from your life. Whether it be friends or sometimes even family members, God has a reason every time He chooses to keep or eliminate someone from your life.
  13. Never assume you know everyone’s backgrounds and life stories. Each person comes with his or her own baggage, and it is important to realize we all have daily struggles and harder days.
  14. People have their own life timeline. No one is doing life “wrong.” Each individual has a separate life pace.
  15. Having time for yourself is needed! Whether it is something simple like a day to lounge around in pjs and watch Netflix, or even going to dinner with some friends, it is acceptable to take some time for YOU.
  16. Travel! Explore countries! The best years of my life were studying abroad, while getting the chance to meet new people and experience diverse cultures and values.
  17. Try to learn a new life lesson every day. Even if it is a fun fact or a new skill, we should constantly strive to expand our horizons.
  18. Never be afraid to ask questions! I love to learn, but the only way to do so is to ask someone who has more knowledge in this particular area. Don’t be ashamed of asking “dumb” questions- a question almost always has an answer!
  19. Forgive and try to forget. This one is tough. Everyone has a past- it is our job to turn our good and bad experiences into life lessons.
  20. Create your own trends and do not fear standing out. From fashion or being your ordinary self, never be scared to show others the real YOU.
  21. Take risks! Those risks might turn out to be your biggest life blessings.
  22. Be thankful for what God gave you. During Lent this year, I started writing down a handful of things I am thankful for every day. It really makes you appreciate everything, even the smallest things in life.
  23. “I love you…but I love me more.” Put yourself first ALWAYS. You deserve to be just as happy as anyone else around you.
  24. It’s ok to hit rock bottom, because the only direction you can go from there is UP. We all make mistakes which lead us to some low points, but that is the time to step back and understand what we need to re-evaluate in our lives.
  25. Life never goes completely according to plan. I am one of the biggest planners. Though, I have realized that we can “plan” a few weeks or months, but every daily decision we make can alter our “plans” drastically, sometimes for the better and other times for the worse.

I hope everyone takes time to sit down and make such a list. Life is full of blessings and beautiful moments, but sometimes, we need to take a few steps back to realize all of them.

MUST-HAVE JEANS IN 2021

Twenty years later…Mom Jeans are still trendy and fashionable! This past week, I finally found my very first pair of these perfect-fit jeans. The hype for these has been off the charts recently, and now, I can second that motion full-heartedly.

What makes these jeans so special? Mom Jeans feature a high waist and long zipper. The leg portion of the denim offers a “baggy” look, which makes the fit much more comfortable and easier to wear. I paired mine with a leather jacket and long sleeve shirt for a more casual look. This aesthetic can also be styled in countless ways, giving one so many possibilities to pair the jeans with blazers, jackets, or even blouses and t-shirts.

It was no simple task finding Mom Jeans that fit well, but were also a trendy color, style, and made from good-quality material. The ones I am wearing above were purchased at American Eagle. This denim comes with a comfort stretch waistband, some “rebellious” rips, and is currently on sale for less than $50!

Whether you have a lunch date with a friend or need an everyday work-from-home outfit, these jeans NEED to be your next purchase. I styled mine with a leather jacket, sneakers, and a cropped long-sleeve. The light blue wash of the jeans also brought out a warm and summery feel, since these can be worn in the summertime, too.

The next time you need a cute fit for a stroll through the city or even a girls night out, make sure to give this jean style a try. This trend did not disappoint decades ago… and it definitely does not now!

SPRING FEVER IN CHICAGO

Happy first weekend of sunny weather! After all the snow days filled with cold and treacherous ice, Chicago finally received some beautiful sunshine this weekend 🙂 This Saturday called for a coffee date with one of my best friends, Naida, who is also my photographer ❤

We visited Cupitol in Evanston, Illinois. This is a go-to coffee shop for anyone living in the Northern suburbs. You can find all food categories here-from coffee, pressed-juices, and pastries, to burgers or even salads. The large array of pastries, in particular, makes it challenging to choose just one! You have options which range from your typical chocolate chip cookies, all the way to fancier pecan tarts, croissants, and scones! I tried an Iced Matcha Latte with almond milk along with a Pecan Maple Scone. Naida ordered a Nutella Latte and Mini Fruit Tart.

When you walk into the coffee shop, you order over the counter, and then proceed to sit down at any table. The furniture and inside scenery of the cafe offers a cosy, European style vibe. This place was also ideal to snap some pictures filled with the colorful decorative pillows laying around!

We also decided to explore downtown Evanston! We ran into numerous vibrant murals, architectural monuments, and such cute side streets! With the bright weather, we took so many clear shots next to some of our favorite statues.

For this daytime adventure, I styled one of the dresses from Aeropostale’s newest spring collection. This “Plaid Mini Dress” gave off a feminine, blue print silhouette. I was back to my high school uniform days! 😀 I paired it with a white “Turtle Neck Solid Tee” from Shein. I am wearing a size small in both the dress and long-sleeve shirt.

ZARA SEASON FAVORITES

Zara is one of my favorite go-to stores! Not only does it have the cutest and trendiest items, but you can create such unique and chic looks for any style or occasion. This past week, I picked up two new items in their collection.

The first piece was this plaided and “textured weave jumpsuit.” I am wearing an x-small. The green color is such a vibrant shade for the spring. Paired with tights, this jumpsuit makes for the perfect coffee or lunch date look. The lapel collar with the round neckline also compliments the balloon sleeves, which have elastic cuffs, preventing slipping down the arm. The belt is also included, as it adds the ideal touch to the final outfit.

The second item I bought was this adorable, white “ruffled cable knit mini cardigan.” I am wearing a size small. Keep in mind, it is a crop-top style! It can be paired with jeans or a skirt. I even added a cute hat to top off my look. This cardigan has a round neck with short sleeves, which have an exquisite ruffle touch to them. The fabric is also very comfortable and extremely soft!

VALENTINE’S DAY OUTFITS

It is that time of the year…Valentine’s Day! As with chocolates and desserts, you either love or despise this holiday. For girls, though, I guess it gives us the best excuse to dress up, look cute, and do some fun activities with gal pals, loved ones, or even family members. Love should be celebrated always, but February 14th is that one day we can all be a little “extra” without any judgement 😉 I linked two outfits below- all pieces are under $10.

My local Starbucks had the cutest sign and I think it sums up what we should do today and everyday…

I put together an outfit from Zara. The dress is called “Heart Print Dress” – rightfully so, because it has adorable black and red hearts all over it. Not only is it the perfect look for a casual lunch or formal dinner date , but it is also under $8…what a steal ❤ !

This second outfit is from Shein. The “Fringe Trim Belted Houndstooth Tweed Skirt” is the cutest shade of lavender. I paired it with the black “One Shoulder Puff Sleeve Rib-knit Top” for a vivid contrast. Both items are under $10!

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

I wanted to make a blog post to introduce myself! I hope this allows readers to learn more about me 🙂 Please leave any questions or comments below!

  • I have three older brothers. I am the only girl in the family, so I really grew up with three extra dads.
  • I HATED avocados growing up. Now, they have become one of my favorite foods!
  • I love to write, edit essays, or anything English-related. If you ever need someone to double check that paper, I am your go-to gal 😉

  • In Junior High, my science fair project won “Best in Category” at the Regional State Fair. I also took first place in the IL State Finals.
  • I have never pulled an all-nighter! I am definitely an early bird, so I prefer to wake up to finish something, rather than to stay awake for the majority of the night.
  • I have held a baby tiger. This was always on my bucket list and it came true a few years ago…thanks to my cousin ❤
  • I am a vegetarian. I will eat all the veggies and fruits…besides grapefruit. I HATE it!

  • My first pet was an Amazon Green Parrot named Brenda. She spoke two languages and was supposed to outlive us all. Unfortunately, she passed away while I was in college 😦

PLAN A “COVID WEDDING”

In October of 2020, my best friend, Julia, asked me to be her MAID OF HONOR! We had both been waiting for this day for YEARS, and finally, it happened! 😀 Even though our world is undergoing a current pandemic, I still wanted her to have the wedding of her dreams. I had the privilege of planning the bridal shower and the bachelorette party. Here are a few of the steps I followed for these 2 very special occasions:

  • DECOR: This has to be one of the top essential items on the prep list. It is crucial to pick a color scheme! It can align with the bride’s wedding colors, or can be in a completely different spectrum. Julia’s wedding colors were burgundy and gold, so for the bridal shower, I envisioned a similar theme. The bachelorette party, on the other hand, was filled with more “fun” colors, like pink and red. As for decorations, I set a budget of $40 per bridesmaid. This amount accounted for 2 items ordered per girl- 1 item for the bridal shower and the other for the bachelorette party. I made Amazon wish lists filled with items the bridesmaids could choose and order from, which definitely made it more convenient and cheaper. Here is some of the decor we ordered!

SHOP THE DECOR:

  • LOCATION: The next step is finding the most ideal places to plan your celebrations. The bridal shower can be held at someone’s house, a banquet hall, or even outdoors! We hosted Julia’s shower at a small country farmhouse in northern Illinois. This is definitely individualistic, as is the location of a bachelorette party. For our group, we originally planned to fly to Florida for a weekend getaway, but we wanted to play it safe and decided to drive to Julia’s Wisconsin lake house. Sometimes, it can be a nice surprise to pick places without the bride’s knowledge!
  • PARTY AGENDA: I live by my planner, which means I never leave home without it! Before each of these events, I wrote out a schedule- simple guidelines to follow to make sure everything goes smoothly. For the bridal shower, this included a list of “tasks” I wanted to get done before and during the party, such as decorating, playing bridal games, opening her presents, and even making sure there was time for pictures and mingling between all the guests! As for the bachelorette weekend, this is definitely dependent on wherever your group is going and what there is to do in that city. Our weekend was on the calmer side, so it included many touristy downtown adventures and delicious food!
  • ACTIVITIES: It is important to plan the weekends around hobbies and spots the bride enjoys-from restaurants, bars, and anything in between! Our bridal group did a wine & art class, which was super fun, “covid-friendly,” and hosted in a small group. According to whatever your soon-to-be bride loves to do in her spare time, you can pick accordingly and make reservations ahead of time.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST…
